What to expect when you visit us...

Almost everyone is somewhat anxious when visiting a new church. We have prepared this page to tell you a little about us and what to expect when you visit us.

Most folks are impressed by the simplicity of our assemblies. We try our best to follow the pattern of the early church of the New Testament in everything we do. We want to be able to give you Scripture and verse for all we say and do. We believe worship is active, so you are warmly encouraged to join with us. Here is an idea of what to expect.

One of the first things you may notice is the absence of any musical instruments. We practice what is called a cappella singing,  which means "as they did it in the church." This is a conviction with us, not just a preference. Since instrumental music was not used in the New Testament church for the first eight or nine hundred years of the Christian era, we feel more comfortable not adding musical instruments to our worship today.

We love to sing, however. The song leader will announce a hymn number and everyone will join in singing praise to God as a congregation. Please feel free to join in as well.

We strongly believe in prayer. Prayer is our means of thanking God for all His good blessings and requesting His continued care over us. There will be several prayers said, and some of them may be for specific needs and requests. One of the most beautiful blessings of being a member of Rockwall and Brin Church of Christ  is having such a warm church family that is willing and eager to pray for people. We have seen great things happen because of prayer.

If you attend on Sunday, the Lord's Supper will be an important part of our time together. Men serving at the table will give thanks for the bread, break a piece from it, eat it, and pass it on to another until the whole assembly has partaken. Then, they will take fruit of the vine, give thanks, drink, and pass the tray to each Christian until all drink. We believe that the bread represents the body of Christ, and the cup is symbolic of his blood of the new covenant (Matthew 26:26-28). Our observance of this memorial is the highlight of our meeting together every first day of the week (Acts 20:7).

We will pass a collection plate for our members (1 Corinthians 16:2). As our guests, you are not expected to make a donation. Feel comfortable just passing the plate down the aisle.

Bible study is important to us. The preacher will speak from twenty to thirty minutes, and we hope you find his message inspiring, challenging and Bible centered. At the close of the sermon, he will extend an invitation to anyone whose heart has been touched by the message. A song will be sung and those wishing to respond are invited to step forward and make their desires known. One who believes in Christ (Hebrews 11:6), repents of sin (Luke 13:3), confesses Christ (Romans 10:9-10), and is baptized into Christ (Galatians 3:26-27) is added to the church (Acts 2:47). However, this action is voluntary, and you will never be singled out for public attention or embarrassment. If you have questions, or would like to talk more, one of our elders would be glad to do so in private.

After some concluding remarks, someone will lead us in a closing prayer, we will sing a final song, and we will be dismissed.

If someone responds for baptism, you will witness a reenactment of the "death, burial and resurrection of Jesus." The baptism will be by immersion and for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38).

You are invited to participate in our worship, but don't feel pressured. We will only ask you to sign a Visitor's Card so that we can have record of your honoring us with your time. We will be glad to visit you if you would like. If you don't want a visit, that's alright, too. We just want to be friends.

Now that you know what to expect in our worship assembly, maybe you would like to know more about the people present.

You won't have to look very hard to find our faults. If you are looking for the perfect church, you won't find it here. What you will find; though, are people who love Jesus and the Bible? Who love each other and who want to go to Heaven.

There's a lot of confusion and division in the religious world resulting in many names and creeds. We have no creed but Christ and wear no name but Christian. We believe that when we follow the Bible only, we will be Christians only.

Come look us over. We hope you like what you see! We think you'll find a group of non-denominational people, joined together in Christ, giving glory to their Heavenly Father. That's our goal and all we want to be!
